Liposuction is also known as liposuction or liposculpture. It involves the removal by suction of stubborn excess fat that remains despite diet or exercise.

Liposuction can be performed in a number of areas: saddlebags, stomach, flanks, thighs, knees, calves, arms and breasts.

Liposuction is not intended to replace a healthy lifestyle or to correct obesity. It consists of suctioning out excess fat cells using round-tipped, non-cutting foam cannulas inserted through puncture incisions. The end of these cannulas is perforated and connected to a closed circuit where negative pressure is generated.

How does liposuction work?

Today, assisted liposuction is performed using vibrating cannulas or cannulas coupled with radiofrequency, hydrodissection or focused ultrasound.

These improve the surgeon’s comfort and make it possible to treat more difficult areas. Finer cannulas make it possible to treat superficial fat and thus improve skin retraction.

New indications have emerged, such as submental liposuction, etching and gynaecomastia. Etching is a high-definition liposuction that brings out the abdominal muscles, the famous ‘chocolate bar’.
