Comfort posthectomy

Posthectomy or circumcision is an operation involving partial or total removal of the foreskin, a tissue made up of skin (outer layer), mucous membrane (inner layer), nerves, blood vessels and muscle fibres. The foreskin is connected to the glans by the frenulum, a thin strip of tissue that limits its movements and allows it to be returned to its basic position above the glans.

Hymenoplasty

This chapter is devoted to hymenoplasty. This procedure is particularly controversial because of its ethical implications(1). We have chosen to treat this subject in the same way as any other genital plastic surgery procedure, because it is important for all plastic surgeons to know the anatomical and surgical basis of this region, as it is frequently requested in certain ethnic communities.

Penoplasty

The demand for cosmetic penile enlargement has increased considerably over the last ten years. The probable reason for this increase in demand is the explosion in exposure of the genitals in pornographic photos or films on the Internet, in the press and in activities such as hammams and spas (which are on the increase in Western countries). Phallocentrism is the concept that the penis is central to male identity.

Reconstructing the clitoris after female genital mutilation

Excision is defined as the ritual removal of part of the clitoris. It is now classified by the WHO as female genital mutilation (FGM). This term covers all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or any other lesion of the female genital organs, carried out for non-medical reasons.

Reduction nymphoplasty

Reduction nymphoplasty is the most commonly performed genital plastic surgery procedure in the world today. It involves reducing the size of the labia minora by removing the excess mucosa. Labia minora hypertrophy is defined as an excessive size of the labia minora in relation to the labia majora.
